Toddlers

Toddlerhood is a very special time of development when early experiences can have lifelong and lasting effects. At Shantivan Kiddie Convent we make careful and sensitive decisions regarding each child. We carefully implement curriculum that incorporates age-appropriate strategy-based lessons. This helps your child in developing emotional intelligence, social intelligence, sensory discrimination skills, concept development, critical thinking skills, and language and physical skills.

Our developmentally appropriate practices provide safe and healthy ways to teach young children. We provide many opportunities for toddlers to learn and play in a safe and age appropriate environment. We believe that children learn best in a supportive environment that allows freedom of movement and active exploration. We focus on each child's growth, self esteem, and natural curiosity. At this age, children want to make simple choices. Therefore, they are afforded opportunities for teacher-facilitated decision-making. We use music, art. manipulatives, games, puzzles, and books to provide interesting and stimulating ways to engage our children.

Toddlers begin to understand the world of causality. This is often accomplished by experimentation through touching and moving objects. This is the beginning of STEM thinking and abstract learning.

Our curriculum is based on the belief that children learn best through active and engaging sensory experiences Walking, climbing and exploring are some of the activities toddlers enjoy each day. We encourage children to develop unique skills, interests, and strengths. We also encourage children to explore and discover while supporting their growing independence. This educational approach allows direct, hands on experiences with people objects, and events. We provide endless opportunities for toddlers to learn and play in an inviting age-appropriate and safe environment.

At Shantivan Kiddie Convent, our staff utilizes active listening language modeling and responsive caregiving to caregiving to ensure that each child is developing appropriate language skills. By continually listening, talking, and describing actions to our toddlers, we help enhance vocabulary, expand expressive language skills, improve communication, and develop self-esteem.
